When asked how they feel about letting "homosexuals" serve in the military, 59 percent of respondents strongly favored or somewhat favored allowing them to serve.

However, when the phrasing was changed to "gay men and lesbians," that number shot up to 70 percent.

In another question about serving openly, 44 percent favored allowing "homosexuals" to do so, while 58 percent favored open "gay men and lesbians" in the nation's military.

Saenz is the president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. "In order to be true to that core value, comprehensive immigration reform must fix our system to include LGBT families."

"Failure to do so would leave us with a flawed system that continues to tear apart. families, contrary to our legal and constitutional traditions," he continued.
